Super Mario RPG Returns
One of my favorite games of all time, Super Mario RPG, is being remade for the Switch!
Originally released for the Super Nintendo in America in May of 1996, this remake appears to be closer to a remaster than a remake, but personally, I am fine with this.
Super Mario RPG will launch digitally on the Nintendo eShop on November 17, 2023.
FFXVI Is Live

Watch Every Final Fantasy Ever
I’ve long been a fan of SevenSins and his yearly speedrun marathon of every Final Fantasy game (starting roughly every December and lasting a month) called the Final Fantasy Fiesta. He now has a dedicated channel that just replays the older fiestas on a loop, which is a fun watch. Check it out below!

CONSUMER DEMO FOR
FINAL FANTASY XVI, FEATURING OPENING PROLOGUE AND SPECIAL BATTLE DEMO, NOW AVAILABLE
LOS ANGELES (June 12, 2023) – Today, SQUARE ENIX® released a free consumer demo for FINAL FANTASY®XVI, the latest standalone entry in the critically-acclaimed FINAL FANTASY franchise, ahead of its highly anticipated launch on June 22 for PlayStation®5 (PS5™) consoles. The consumer demo was revealed during the FINAL FANTASY XVI Pre-Launch Celebration in Los Angeles yesterday, which hosted hundreds of fans and guests who celebrated the upcoming launch with a variety of activities, on-stage announcements and panels.
At the FINAL FANTASY XVI Pre-Launch Celebration, FINAL FANTASY XVI Producer Naoki Yoshida announced that the FINAL FANTASY XVI Demo will give fans interested in starting the adventure early access to the opening prologue, with saved progress carrying over to the full game after its release. In the demo, take control of Clive Rosfield at the start of his epic tale and learn about his ambitions and goals, as he endures a tragic event sending him on a dark and dangerous path of revenge. Completing the prologue allows players to experience a special battle demo which has numerous abilities unlocked, giving them the opportunity to jump into exhilarating battles and test out a wide array of devastating attacks and combos.
Additionally, a new trailer, titled “ASCENSION,” was revealed. The trailer provided a further glimpse of what fans can expect in the high-octane action-RPG.
Further, in partnership with creative agency Anomaly, SQUARE ENIX revealed a short film at the event, titled “Requiem.” The three minute 30 second film is directed by Diego Contreras and features live actors, along with a moving score composed by the game’s Composer Masayoshi Soken, further bringing to life the game’s immersive story.
FINAL FANTASY XVI introduces players to an all-new story in the FINAL FANTASY universe, an epic dark fantasy that takes place in the realm of Valisthea – a land blessed in the light of the Mothercrystals, and where peace falters as the spread of the Blight threatens to destroy their dominions. The fate of the land is decided by the Eikons, mighty summoned beasts and their Dominants, men and women who have been blessed with the ability to call upon and wield them. This is the tale of Clive Rosfield, a warrior granted the title “First Shield of Rosaria” and sworn to protect his younger brother Joshua, the Dominant of the Phoenix, Eikon of Fire. Before long, Clive will be caught up in a great tragedy and swear revenge on the Dark Eikon known as Ifrit, a mysterious entity that brings calamity in its wake.
FF7 Rebirth Trailer
Final Fantasy fans were treated to an exciting day as the new trailer for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was unveiled during the Summer Game Fest. Square Enix showcased the second chapter of its re-imagining of the legendary game, revealing some surprising elements. The trailer provided a comprehensive look at the game, showcasing its hybrid action combat and stunning new graphics that recreate familiar scenes. Square Enix confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be released in early 2024 and will be a sizable game requiring two discs, and includes the infamous Nibelheim Incident.
During the 25th Anniversary livestream of Final Fantasy VII in 2022, Square Enix announced that the 2020 release of Final Fantasy VII Remake was the first installment of a trilogy, with the second game named Rebirth. The first part of the trilogy, Final Fantasy VII Remake, deviated from the original game’s timeline, leading to speculation and confusion among fans. However, the “first look” trailer for FFVII Rebirth showcased intriguing scenes of Cloud and Sephiroth in the woods and hinted at the fate of certain characters, igniting excitement among fans.
The Final Fantasy VII Remake and its sequels go beyond simple remasters, incorporating new story elements that expand on the original plot from 1997 and other side stories like Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. This has fueled speculation about the implications of the new additions to the story. The third installment of the FFVII Remake trilogy is currently unnamed and its release date is yet to be announced.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is set to be released in spring 2024 exclusively for PlayStation 5.
